WELCOME TO ST. JOHN'S
We believe all people are created in the image of God and that God loves and cherishes all of creation.

St. John's is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in American  and a Reconciling in Christ community. We are a church that shares a living, daring confidence in God's grace grounded and growing in Christ with the energy of the Holy Spirit. We work toward being a diverse and safe-enough communty for all people practicing  hospitality while being nuturing and healing to ourselves and all others.

WE VALUE
We are a heritage congregation that values the ongoing work of being good neighbors. We do that by embracing hospitality, healing, and resiliency.
HERE'S OUR VISION
We are a place where all people are treated with respect and dignity.
MISSION
Our mission is to connect with and care for God's people and all of creation in heart, soul, body and mind within our walls and around our neighborhood. Here's some of the ways we live into our mission:
  • Planting a soil restoration garden in one of our vacant lots. This garden helps heal the soil that has been damaged by chemicals and creates a home for bees, moths, butterflies, and dragonflies. The flowers add beauty to the neighborhood, adorn our worship space, and add joy to our fellowship tables.
  • Growing an urban garden in partnership with Tapestry Farms. The produce of apples, pears, and peaches feeds our neighbors.
  • Offering two free community meals per week, one in partnership with Palomares Social Justice Organization/ Catalyst Kitchen.
  • Housing and supporting the Catalyst Kitchen, a commessary kitchen for micro businesses.
  • Housing the Palomares Social Justice Organization and many of its programs.
  • Providing meeting space for Narcotics Anonymous, Great River T'ai Chi Ch'uan, and Modern Quilters.
  • Being a Reconciling in Christ community affirming God's beloved LGBTQIA+ people.
  • Being a spiritually expansive community, each week offering a variety of ways to grow our innate spirituality:
    • Liturgical worship on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM,
    • Monthy healing worship services,
    • Flattened hierarchy worship on Sunday evenings at 5:00 PM,
    • Weekly lay led prayer services each Wednesday at 3:30 PM,
    • Ongoing study of scripture through small groups, and
    • Growing our lay leadership.
